The Calabasas, Calif., home most recently inhabited by Britney Spears is coming up for auction next month with a minimum bid of just under $4.5 million. The home originally came on the market for $10.8 million, but most recently asked $7.5 million.

The home is owned by Jose “Pancho” Leon, a builder and founder of a money-order transport company, who says he spent more than $7.7 million building the home. Ms. Spears rented the property from him for two years and, according to Mr. Leon, made several hundred thousand dollars’ worth of upgrades to the home. The 10,300-square-foot home has a movie theater, an elevator, wine cellar, two steam rooms and a guest house.

Mr. Leon says he originally intended to live in the home himself, but his wife decided it was too large. “I am definitely taking a loss on this,” he says.

The property spans more than 20 acres of coastal woodlands situated against the backdrop of the majestic Santa Monica Mountains. Its long list of features includes such amenities as an Olympic‐sized pool, tennis courts, two large horse arenas, softball field, gymnastics area, fully paved picnic area, and school complex with five classrooms, library, four offices, restrooms and storage. A California mansion – originally listed at $65 million – could become the most expensive house in the US when it goes up for auction next month.

The starting bid for the Malibu beach house is $22 million.

The 10,500 square-foot beachside house includes six bedrooms, nine and a half bathrooms, a theater, a 75-foot (25-meter) two-lane lap pool, a gymnasium and a library with an aquarium.

The auction is set to be held on September 18, but the house could be sold before then if an “acceptable offer” were made.
